IoT Sound System
A Designerly Perspective on IoT
In this course, we explored and designed rich and embodied interactions in IoT systems, moving beyond traditional screen-based interactions within a changing and growing system.
We designed a concept for a rich interactive IoT sound system using shape-changing tokens to play, sync and share audio, and switch between music and video mode, unlocking emergent functionalities.
This course strengthened my skills in T&R and C&A through applying theoretical frameworks to design and realize an IoT system with rich and embodied interactions. As a designer preferring efficiency, this was a challenge. This course taught me that my own design approach does not need to align with academic perspectives. While inspired by the notion of dematerialization, for me a rich or embodied interaction should be used when it adds value beyond efficiency, aligning with my vision of seamlessly integrated technology that can improve daily life.
