Researching the Future Everyday

In this course, we explored the future everyday life by creating a research artefact and formulating research question based on critical research from science and technology studies.

We designed an exploratory lab setting in which participants interacted with Poly, a voice assistant (VA) designed to encourage politeness in a near-future scenario, through which we examined the role of VAs in promoting social values.

This experience deepened my understanding of speculative and critical design as an approach to generate foresight rather than reactive critiques, highlighting their potential to critically address and raise awareness of concerns about technology (D&RP, C&E).  It aligns with my PI&V, reinforcing my commitment to use this type of design to ensure technology adoption and use is both conscious and informed.
