Improving Healthy Skepticism towards Digital Technology in Adolescents through Speculative Design Workshops

In my first individual project, I applied methodologies learned in Constructive Design Research to explore whether speculative design workshops could improve healthy skepticism towards digital technology among adolescents. The workshops combined discussions, theory and hands-on activities to guide students in creating speculative designs.

This project deepened my understanding of design research, showing valuable outcomes can be achieved without a physical design artifact and highlighting the importance of qualitative data in design research, aiming for the ‘why’ behind a qualitative number (D&RP).  Delivering workshops and managing high school students greatly improved my presenting skills and confirmed my decision to combine Industrial Design with Science Education.
